The NBA Summer League is the league’s annual off-season tournament held each July after the draft. Every NBA team brings a roster that is mostly made up of first/second-year players, G-League players, and other players on smaller contracts trying to prove they have what it takes to play in the NBA.
Cooper Flagg, who was drafted first overall in this year's draft, competed in this year's summer league, so fans got a chance to see how he looks against other NBA-level talent.
In his first summer league game, Flagg played pretty badly, scoring 10 points on just 23.8% shooting.
However, fans knew not to overreact to this, as there are many amazing NBA players who played poorly in the summer league.
For example, Jalen Brunson, who is now one of the best players in the NBA, only made 23% of his shots when he played in the summer league back in 2018.
After a rough first game, Flagg played way better in his second, scoring 31 points on 48 % shooting, showing how good he can be.
The summer league still has many more games to be played, but the Mavericks decided that Cooper Flagg will not play in any more of them, presumably to make sure he doesn't get injured before the NBA season starts.
