Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau has been fired.
This is pretty surprising, especially considering that just last week, a bunch of reports were coming out saying his job was safe.
Some people argue a few things, such as Thibodeau playing his starters too many minutes, but overall, it is still pretty surprising he was fired, considering how successful a season the Knicks just had.
Tom Thibodeau just led the team to its first conference finals appearance in 25 years. The Knicks also made the playoffs in 4 out of his 5 years as head coach, and he led the Knicks to consecutive 50-win seasons for the first time since the 1990s.
They won a playoff series in 3 straight years with Thibodeau as coach. From 2001 to 2020, they won just 1 series.
Basically, he was the most successful Knicks head coach in a long time.
In fact, just last week, Knicks star Jalen Brunson was asked if he believed Tom Thibodeau was the right guy going forward.
His response - "Is that a real question right now? Yes."
Overall, a pretty surprising decision considering how highly Knicks players have spoken of him, but according to Shams Charania, "The Knicks are singularly focused on their pursuit of a championship and believe a new voice will serve as the focus for the organization's next step."
We will see what happens going forward, but that's all for now, folks ✌️
That’s suprising
They probably want to try new blood and new ideas!
