Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has won the 2024-25 NBA Most Valuable Player Award!
This year was a very close MVP race between Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nikola Jokic.
One of the big arguments for Shai was that he put up really strong numbers while also leading the Thunder to the best record in the Western Conference.
This season, he averaged a really impressive:
32.7 Points
6.4 Assists
5 Rebounds
1.7 Steals
51.9% of shots made
These are amazing stats, including the highest points per game and 2nd most total steals in the NBA this season.
Just looking at Jokic’s stats and the impact he has, there is also a very strong argument that could be made that he should have won it.
This season, Jokic averaged an insane:
29.8 Points
12.8 Rebounds
10.3 Assists
1.8 Steals
57.5 % of shots made
These are really crazy stats.
Jokic is now just the 3rd player in NBA history to average a triple-double, and the first center ever to do so!
So while I’m not saying Shai didn’t deserve MVP, Jokic probably just had the best season ever for a player who didn't win the award, and a lot of fans are very upset that he didn’t.
In terms of actually most valuable I would agree that it probably should have been Jokic since the Thunder are still a solid team without Shai but the Nuggets aren’t very good without Jokic.
Overall, an incredible season for both Shai and Jokic, and they both have a chance to become all-time greats.
Shai and the OKC Thunder are currently leading 1-0 in the Western Conference finals against the Timberwolves.
That’s all for now, folks ✌️
